OSPI TAP #6: Request for Info on Paraeducators

iep teams ospi paraeducators special education technical assistance washington state Sep 26, 2024

I sent an email to OSPI on September 17, 2024, requesting information. No word yet. I would rally like these templates, as they will help many families across the state participate meaningfully with the IEP team in determining the need for a paraeducator.

My Request to OSPI

Hello! I am emailing to request information related to the Technical Assistance Paper #6 (TAP #6), "Paraeducators and Students Eligible to Receive Special Education Services." On page 8, the "Decision Making Model" has several recommendations. Please can you send me electronic copies of or links to:
  1. A state-recommended or approved intensive needs checklist;
  2. A state-recommended or approved student ability and assistance needs matrix; and
  3. A state-recommended or approved paraeducator plan for assistance.
I have clients in several Washington state school districts, and none of these districts have a publicly available model or the components I am requesting. I ask for these documents so that my parents can participate meaningfully in securing a FAPE for their children.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Your Ideas?

Do you know of a good checklist, matrix or plan? I'd love to hear about it! I'd like to create one that my families can use at IEP Team meetings. Please reach out, I'd love to chat!
